Why do I need an Organic Mattress and Pad?
It's very simple, most mattresses are laden with toxic chemicals. I mean obviously they don't kill most babys, or they would be banned, but if they only harm them chronically, then they are allowed to exist and be sold.
Unfortunately, evidence has been mounting for 6 decades, that the toxic chemicals found in mattresses and pads, is harming babys.
How Does it Harm them?
Babys have a higher respiratory rate then adults, so they are breathing in the toxic fumes at a higher rate. They have very good livers and kidneys at birth, so this portects them some, but it overworks their system at the expense of other processes that should be occurring, like rapid learning, developing their skills.
So what are these Chemicals?
Many mattresses contain flame retardants, petroleum-based polyester, urethanes, and toxic PVC—materials linked to health concerns.
A 2011 Clean and Healthy New York study found that 72% of crib mattresses tested contained harmful chemicals.
Some companies are also misleading about their ingredients—one even claimed its polyester was “organic,” highlighting how common misinformation is.
What Can I do?
Purchase an organic mattress and pad made with organic latex, pure untreated wools, organic cottons. These can be combined to make a pure mattress and pad that is naturally dust mite, mold, bacteria and fire resistant.
